Municipal Theatre of São Paulo

Considered a cultural icon of São Paulo, the Municipal Theater emerged in the city as a magnificent symbol of the cosmopolitan aspirations that marked the start of the 20th century. With tax incentives and investments from coffee barons, architect Ramos de Azevedo and Italian citizens Cláudio Rossi and Domiziano Rossi started construction in 1903. On September 12, 1911, the Municipal Theater was inaugurated in the presence of 20,000 people.

At present the Municipal Theater has six permanent artistic groups: the Municipal Symphony Orchestra, the Lyrical Choir, the City Ballet, the String Quartet, the Mário de Andrade Paulistano Choir and the Experimental Repertory Orchestra. The activities of these different groups make the São Paulo Municipal Theater one of the most prestigious cultural centers in Latin América.

Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo

The Pinacoteca of São Paulo is a museum of visual arts, which focuses on Brazilian artistic production from the 19th century to the present day. Founded in 1905, it is housed in the old building of the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios, which underwent extensive renovation by architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha in the late 1990s.

Over time, it has become an important museum of contemporary art that is committed to artistic production of its time, with a distinguished presence in the artistic scenario of Brazil.

In 2016 it was elected the best museum in Brazil and in South America by Travelers' Choice Museums 2016, an honor conferred by the travel website TripAdvisor.
